In order to get the most bang for your buck with your Avigilon video surveillance system, ensure that you are utilizing the advanced features available on your Network Video Recorder (NVR) and  video cameras.

The Absco Solutions design team strongly recommends setting the encoding format to H.265 and enabling the HDSM SmartCodec feature.

HDSM SmartCodec technology automatically detects activity levels in multiple regions of a scene to optimize compression levels, and reduce bandwidth and storage consumption, all while maintaining high image detail of the areas that matter most.

These settings in combination will stretch the overall retention of the NVR, while providing a smaller footprint upon the customer network.

As the HDSM SmartCodec offers several settings, some “fine tuning” of the adjustments may be required to offer the best optimization for the given camera’s application and field of view.

Note: Most H4 model and later cameras will support the features discussed, but some Avigilon cameras and NVRs may not.

Your Absco Solutions senior account executive or someone on our sales support team salessupport@abscosoltions.com can help you identify any incompatibilities.
